What is raster-to-vector conversion?

Raster-to-vector conversion, also called image tracing or vectorization, interprets a pixel grid as shapes and curves. The result is new geometry, so it can differ from the source and should be reviewed.

Raster pixels do not contain object information

A raster records colors at coordinates. It does not say which pixels belong to a logo shape, letter, shadow, or background. Automatic tracing estimates those boundaries from contrast and neighboring colors.

Complexity follows visual variation

Flat art may need only a few paths. A photo, texture, or gradient can require hundreds or thousands of shapes. Color count and simplification control that tradeoff.

Choose the output for its real purpose

SVG works well for editable web graphics and many design workflows. Fabrication presets add relevant checks, but automatic tracing cannot promise compatibility with every machine or importer.

Keep source detail when comparing palettes

Monochrome and flat artwork trace at full admitted source resolution, with small inputs enlarged for tracing. Only detected complex images or photos use a 2,000 px longest-side cap. A sharper preview does not change the resolution used to build the paths.

For color artwork in Web or Logo, compare up to four supported palettes and then the distinct SVG results for the chosen palette. Broad gray or opacity levels can remain separate paints. White counts toward the displayed total; fully transparent areas do not.

Which images produce the cleanest vector result?

Logos, icons, line art, silhouettes, and flat illustrations with clear edges usually trace most cleanly. Texture, soft shadows, gradients, and noise require more paths.

Does my source image leave the browser?

The vectorization runs locally in your browser. An image is sent only if you explicitly attach it to a feedback form and submit that form.

Can I edit the SVG after conversion?

Yes. You can recolor available swatches, copy the SVG markup, or open the downloaded paths in compatible vector software.
