What is raster-to-vector conversion?

Raster-to-vector conversion, also called image tracing or vectorization, interprets a pixel grid as shapes and curves. The result is new geometry, so it can differ from the source and should be reviewed.

Raster pixels do not contain object information

A raster records colors at coordinates. It does not say which pixels belong to a logo shape, letter, shadow, or background. Automatic tracing estimates those boundaries from contrast and neighboring colors.

Complexity follows visual variation

Flat art may need only a few paths. A photo, texture, or gradient can require hundreds or thousands of shapes. Color count and simplification control that tradeoff.

Choose the output for its real purpose

SVG works well for editable web graphics and many design workflows. Fabrication presets add relevant checks, but automatic tracing cannot promise compatibility with every machine or importer.
