What does an AVIF to SVG converter do?
AVIF stores compressed raster pixels, while SVG stores geometry. AVIF-to-SVG tracing interprets the decoded image as shapes and curves, producing a static vector approximation that can be edited independently of the original pixel grid.
AVIF compression and vector tracing solve different problems
AVIF is designed to store raster imagery efficiently. SVG describes shapes. Tracing can recover useful geometry from a logo, icon, or flat illustration, but it cannot restore design objects that were flattened when the AVIF was made.
Color depth becomes a set of filled regions
Subtle tones and gradients can require many SVG paths. Lowering the color count produces simpler artwork; retaining more colors can follow the source more closely at the cost of additional geometry.
Inspect decoded color and edges
Use the side-by-side preview to check boundaries, pale details, and background removal. For photographic AVIF sources, choose Photo or Complex Illustration and treat the result as a stylized vector interpretation.
